Mobile Devices Account for 45% of E-commerce Sales

Nearly Half of All E-Commerce Sales are Done on Mobile Devices

When online shopping became popular, it changed the way that people shopped for their favourite items, from their clothing to their gadgets, and even their groceries. But these days, things are changing again, with 45 per cent of all e-commerce sales now being completed on mobile devices  rather than on computers  and laptops.

High Conversion Rates to Consider

Retail website visits that occurred on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones reached a whopping 63 per cent in August through October of 2015. And these visits were also up from 60 per cent in 2015’s second quarter, further proving that this trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

However, it should also be noted that, even though traffic rates went up, along with conversion rates from those using mobile devices, there were also a  large number of bounce rates . In fact, the highest bounce rates occurred on mobile devices, coming in at 35 per cent for smartphones alone.

In addition to high bounce rates, high checkout abandonment rates were also seen. These were 52 per cent higher on mobile than on laptops and desktops. So, essentially, users were shopping on their mobile devices, even putting items into their carts, but, for some reason or another, they would decide at the last minute to abandon the cart.

Perhaps they went onto their computers to complete the orders because they felt more secure using their desktop or laptop with added security, rather than using a public Wi-Fi network or 4G connection to put their credit card information through.

All of this means that if you run an e-commerce store, you have to take these users’ needs into consideration. For example, e-commerce websites need to be created with responsive web design in mind so that they’ll display perfectly on even the smallest mobile device screen, as well as on every operating system out there.

It also means that you need to consider how your product photos will appear on mobile devices. Hiring a company like  will ensure your photos will look perfect on any device or computer screen. And if you’re also going so far as to use video to showcase your products, you need to consider how those videos will look on mobile devices too.
